What to ask a tutor
A good enquiry helps families understand whether a tutor may be suitable before arranging lessons.
Teaching and experience
Ask what subjects and levels the tutor teaches, whether they have experience with the learner's year group or exam board, and how they adapt lessons to different needs.
Checks and evidence
Ask about identity, qualifications, DBS certificate details where relevant, references, safeguarding training, insurance, and whether any documents can be shown before tuition begins.
Lesson arrangements
Ask about lesson format, location, online platform, supervision, homework, progress updates, cancellations, fees, and who to contact if there is a concern.
